Spacing out in Warooka
We discovered lots of things about Astronomy while Lisa spent a whole week at Warooka School. If R/1 wanted to walk to the moon it would take 301 036 000 seconds, or 83 621 hours, which makes 9 and a half years. The average distance to the Moon is 376 295 km, although sometimes it is closer and sometimes further away from the Earth, so if we started right now we would be 15 or 16 when we got there. A rocket launches at around 30 000 km per hour and takes a few days to get to the Moon. 6/7 made an electronic skill tester, and 4/5 discovered some things about light and space travel.
SciWorld is a South Australian not-for-profit science outreach organisation formed in early 2007.
Did you catch us in the Stardome at the Royal Adelaide Show from September 4 to 12?
SciWorld and DECS celebrate the Interntational Year of Astronomy at this year's Adelaide Show in the Learning Centre. Kids, parents and grandparents crawled in to check out some stars.
Science Alive!
Did you visit us at Science Alive at the Adelaide Showgrounds August 7, 8, and 9 in 2009? We'll be back again in a bigger space in 2010, so hope to see you August 6, 7 and 8.
We had some science shows, we made music with air, we flew things, and we experimented with colourful hands-on exhibits throughout the Angus Stirling pavilion. We were amazed at Prof Rob Morrison and Dr Deane Hutton's Curious Science Show, and we crawled inside inflatable Stardomes to explore the night sky during the daytime. Check out our Photos page to see some experimenters.
Where is SciWorld?
Can we bring our equipment to your place? Our long term aim is to establish a new science centre in Adelaide to use as a base to run exciting science education programs for all South Australians. In the meantime we are really grateful for the support of the University of South Australia in storing our equipment.
